A special four-legged visitor to Year 4

All week Year 4 have been taking part in the Great British Bark Off. We have learnt all about the excellent work of the charity Underdog International through the story of Birdie and had lots of fun making masks and decorating cakes for this great cause.

On Friday, we looked at the body language of dogs to help us understand how they are feeling and put our knowledge into practice when we met our very special guest, Heather!

Our lovely TA, Mrs Walden, trains guide dog puppies and Heather is her latest charge. I’m not sure who was more excited but she behaved beautifully when faced with 30 children! The class did themselves proud, understanding not to be too loud or excitable so they didn’t scare Heather. Mrs Walden discussed what her role is in training Heather and how we should behave around new dogs. The children asked lots of questions and everyone got to have a cuddle. It was a lovely end to a very wet day and we all wish Heather could become a permanent member of Year 4!
