Year 1

Year 1 pupils…

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to school everyone! I hope you are ready to start a new term!

We will be having P.E. on Monday (outdoors) and Thursday (indoors), so please make sure to have your complete and appropriate P.E. kit in school. However, please ensure their PE kit is in school every day.   Please ensure all clothes are labelled with the child’s name in.

Our Theme this term is ‘Homes under the Hammer’, where in History: Homes Through Time – How homes have changed over time including differences between modern day homes and Victorian/ Tudor homes. In geography we will be looking at Leavesden and Beyond – Identifying and comparing human/ physical features. In science, looking at materials we use in everyday life. Carrying on with the theme, in D & T, we are looking at Shaping Techniques – Exploring buildings around the world and paper shaping techniques before designing and making our own building.  In Art, exploring Sculptures – Exploring famous sculptors before designing and making our own sculptures using a variety of materials. In computing we will be looking at Robot algorithm and grouping data. Finally, PHSE looking at ‘’Goals and Dreams” and “Healthy Me’.

In Maths we will be focusing on addition, subtraction, place value to 50 and measurements. In English, continuing with The Write Stuff scheme,  we will be looking at the following topics – Pinocchio (traditional tale) , Our trip to the woods (recount), and On a safari (travel journal).

There is an expectation that pupils read at least three times per week, if possible, to an adult and change their scheme book at least once per week. It is the child’s responsibility to hand in the book to be changed. Reading is the foundation of all other learning, supporting them to work independently on tasks and further their learning.

Homework grids are set at the beginning of each half term. Homework books are to be handed in on Thursday’s and will be returned to the children on Friday. The topics in the homework grid, link to learning for that half term, and support the child’s learning.  It is the child’s responsibility to hand in their homework book.

On Tuesday will be my PPA day, Mrs C Pinder will be covering that day.

If you need to get in touch with us, please remember to use the ‘contact us’ button on the side of the page and we will get back to you as quickly as we can.
