Year 4

Year 4 pupils…

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to school!

It has been great to begin to get to know the class and settling them into Year 4. To cover my PPA time, Mrs Crasnier will be taking the class on a Friday morning. We are in the process of appointing a new TA to support the class but in the meantime have a temporary TA helping with the class’s learning.

Each week the children will need their full P.E. kits on a Tuesday and a Friday and I am asking that children leave their kits in school. We will then send them home to be washed at half term.

We are very fortunate that in Year 4 we are able to supply the children with their own chromebooks for use in class and at home. The children are currently using them in class and a letter regarding the chrome books going home will follow in due course.

Every Monday homework tasks will be uploaded onto Google Classroom for the children to complete online, focusing on essential skills. This needs to be completed and submitted by Sunday evening and we will go through the questions in class. This will begin once the children are able to take their chrome books home.

Reading is a vital skill and helps children across the entire curriculum. Please encourage your children to read as often as possible, aiming to read aloud with an adult at least 3 times each week. I would expect this to continue even when your child is a ‘free’ reader as the process of reading aloud really helps with their comprehension skills. This, along with any independent reading, should be recorded in their reading record and brought into school each day.

In addition to our English and Maths lessons, our theme this term is ‘Marvellous Myths’ focussing on Ancient Greece. There are lots of exciting activities planned and I am sure that the class will enjoy learning about this area of history across our History, Geography, Art, D and T and Music lessons. In P.E., I will be working with the children on a variety of skills this term including gymnastics, tri-golf, fitness and netball. In Science, they will be looking at electricity and animals including humans.

If you have any queries or concerns, please speak with me at the end of the day or phone the school office and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I am looking forward to the year ahead with you and your children.
